Job summary

The Dougherty County Solid Waste department seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator to run backhoes, bulldozers and dump trucks for maintaining grounds, buildings and roads.

You will inspect equipment daily, perform basic repairs, load and move dirt, operate at the landfill, and assist with road construction projects. A high school diploma or GED and two years of heavy equipment experience are required.

• Two years of experience operating heavy equipment

Responsibilities

• Reviews daily assignments to plan most effective methods for completion; inspects equipment thoroughly before use.
• Operates heavy equipment and trucks for maintenance of grounds, buildings, and roads.
• Moves, compacts, and buries solid waste at the landfill and loads dirt for disposal.
• Constructs roads and maintains right-of-way; clears landscapes for manhole work and pipe laying.
• Performs minor preventive maintenance and safety checks; follows safe work practices.
