City of Winter Springs (FL) is seeking an experienced heavy equipment operator for public works construction and stormwater support. The role includes repair and preventive maintenance, and operating diverse heavy equipment for multiple city departments.

The position is essential personnel, with emergency response duties and potential after-hours shifts. Strong knowledge of safety and blueprints is required, along with the ability to perform outdoor work in Florida conditions.

Qualifications

• Must have High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of related manual labor and technical experience in infrastructure maintenance.
• Five years of heavy equipment operating experience in a public works construction field, including repair and preventive maintenance.
• Two years of manual labor can substitute for 1 year of heavy equipment experience.
• Valid Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement.
• FDOT TTC/MOT Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy and light equipment including front-end loaders, Gradall excavators, skid steers, combination machines, aerial lifts, bucket trucks, clamshell trucks, backhoes, trackhoes.
• Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and daily inspections; keep equipment clean and in good repair.
• Transport equipment to and from the job site and City garage on trailers.
• Operate equipment during routine and emergency repairs of City infrastructure.
• Serve as essential personnel during emergency activation; report for duty as needed.
• Attend in-person during City hours; coordinate with staff, residents, and vendors.
