Job summary

Veit is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a variety of construction machinery, excavate and grade earth, and assist with equipment maintenance. The role requires adherence to Veit's safety programs and OSHA guidelines, with involvement in training new staff and coordinating with project teams.

The position demands flexibility for long shifts (8 to 12 hours), potential travel, weekend work, and union affiliation or willingness to join.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of operating construction equipment experience; or equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles and ability to operate under varying conditions.
Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions standard to heavy equipment operations.
OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and Veit safety training requirements.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment such as motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, compressors, pumps, derricks, shovels, tractors, or front-end loaders.
Follow safety procedures in accordance with company and OSHA guidelines.
Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on equipment and report defects.
Assist in training entry-level employees in maintenance and repair duties.
Identify underground utilities before excavating and coordinate with supervisors.
