Job summary

Veit is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator in Festus, MO to operate a range of construction machinery on site and highway projects. You will follow OSHA safety procedures and report issues to the project team, while performing routine equipment inspections and maintenance.

You will also help train new staff, identify utilities prior to excavation, and review trenching requirements with supervisors to ensure safe, efficient work. The role may require travel and varying shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 6–12 months of operating construction equipment experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment under varying working conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in site or highway construction.
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures and report issues to supervisors.
• Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance and refers defects to supervisors.
• Assist in training entry-level employees to perform maintenance and repairs as required.
• Identify underground and overhead utilities before excavating and review trenching requirements with supervision.
