Veit & Company, Inc. is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate multiple types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth, or erect structures.

The role includes routine maintenance, training entry-level staff, and ensuring underground utilities are identified before digging. The position requires OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and strong safety discipline, with potential travel and weekend work.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 6–12 months of operating equipment experience.
• Good knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
• Ability to operate heavy equipment under varying conditions.
• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and safety precautions are required.
• Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes and site plans.
• Good communication skills with management, vendors and staff.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions; math concepts in practical use.
• Must be 18+ and able to travel; union affiliation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operate one or more types of heavy construction equipment to excavate, move, and grade earth or erect structures.
• Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance; report defects.
• Assist in training entry-level employees on maintenance and repair duties.
• Identify underground utilities before excavating and ensure required protection.
• Review trenching requirements with supervisors and maintain safety protocols.
• Inform foreman or safety director of any issues affecting project execution.
• Handle additional duties as assigned by management.
