Job summary

North Texas Municipal Water District is seeking a landfill equipment operator to perform duties in operating a range of heavy machinery within the landfill. The role supports safe, compliant operations under supervision and contributes to the district’s waste management goals.

Ideal candidates will have at least a high school diploma or GED, two years’ experience with heavy equipment, and a valid Texas driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor heavy landfill equipment (e.g., compactors, bulldozers, loaders).
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Monitor process operations as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintain unit housekeeping and safety practices.
  • Observe and enforce safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Verify waste deliveries comply with rules and regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Position Summary

This position performs duties in the operation of the NTMWD Landfills. The position is responsible for the operation of a specific area which includes operating various pieces of heavy equipment in the landfill. Works under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities
  • Operates and monitors performance of the heavy construction type equipment, such as landfill compactors, bulldozers, loaders, off-road articulated dump trucks, motor graders, etc., within the landfill.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment operated with minimal supervision.
  • Monitors certain process operations as directed by supervisor.
  • Responsible for housekeeping in assigned units.
  • Responsible for observing safe work practices.
  • Verify that delivered waste is in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in operation of heavy construction type equipment.
  • Maintains a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Requires sustained mental attention regarding correct process adjustments necessary for proper Landfill maintenance.
  • Spatial discrimination; eye-hand-foot coordination; manual dexterity; ability to follow written and oral instructions; generally good physical condition.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

This position requires moderate physical exertion with daily lifting requirements up to 25 pounds. Working conditions include exposure to weather and odor. Subject to shift work. Equipment used includes bulldozers, loaders, articulated dump trucks, fuel truck, backhoes, motor graders, air compressors, high-pressure washers and other miscellaneous equipment.
