Qualifications

North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is seeking a Light Equipment Operator to work with the Facilities Services operations. The operator must be able to handle a rubber‑tire backhoe, a tracked backhoe, loader, and dump truck, and will work under the general supervision of the Pipeline Crewleader.

Position Summary

The Light Equipment Operator operates construction‑type equipment and performs related maintenance and repairs, ensuring safe operation and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the performance of construction equipment (loaders, backhoes, skid steers) with minimal supervision.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Maintain housekeeping in assigned units.
• Act as a Lead Maintenance Worker when not operating equipment.
• Follow safe work practices, use safety equipment, and adhere to ESP entry, lockout/tagout procedures.
• Repair water and sewer lines in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Attain proficiency in the District Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo).
• Work nights, weekends, and holidays as required; participate in rotational “on‑call” shifts and overtime.
• Attend all required safety training.
• Remain current on all light equipment safety operations for job sites and plant locations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• At least two years of experience operating construction‑type equipment.
• Preference for a Class “C” Distribution or Type II Collections license issued by TCEQ.
• Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License required or must be obtained within six months of employment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Spatial discrimination, eye–hand–foot coordination, and manual dexterity.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Generally good physical condition.

Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

• Required to drive a District vehicle; must maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
• Expect moderate physical exertion with daily lifting up to 75 pounds.
• Exposure to weather and odor; shift work and use of construction equipment such as dozers, loaders, dump trucks, and high‑pressure washers.
