Job summary

Brevard County's Public Works Department, Roadway and Bridge unit, seeks a skilled heavy equipment operator in Palm Bay, FL. The role is permanent, full time, with a schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The successful candidate will operate multiple heavy machines, possess a Florida Class A CDL, and pass a proficiency test. Salary ranges hourly, with disaster-response duties as needed.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment used in road and drainage construction.
• Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's license and maintain it during the term of employment.
• Must demonstrate ability to operate four different heavy equipment types and pass a proficiency skills test.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including Track-Hoe, Back Hoe, Road Grader and Dozer.
• Perform routine maintenance and related manual labor as needed.
• Rotate among various pieces of equipment during daily assignments and emergencies.
• May be required to perform emergency duties during hurricanes or disasters.

$25.09 to $27.60 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. South Area/Palm Bay. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs skilled crafts and trades work in the operation and routine maintenance of several pieces of complex heavy equipment, and may perform related manual labor. Employee will rotate among various pieces of equipment.

REQUIREMENTS

Three (3) years of experience in the operation and routine maintenance of heavy equipment including a Track-Hoe excavator, Back Hoe, Road Grader, and Dozer, used in the construction and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, and drainage structures, and pass a proficiency skills test. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Must possess, or obtain prior to employment, a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's license and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must demonstrate ability to effectively operate four (4) different types of heavy equipment including a Track-Hoe excavator, Back Hoe, Road Grader, and Dozer. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
