Job summary

Georgia Department of Transportation in Gainesville, GA is seeking a TRT052 Trans Tech 3 - Maintenance Equipment Operator HD. Under general supervision, you will operate heavy equipment to support highway maintenance and related activities.

This role requires CDL, extensive maintenance knowledge, and the ability to work after hours; you will coordinate with regional staff and document activities in reports.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus one year of related experience.
• Agency minimum: maintenance knowledge or three years’ motorized equipment operation.
• Requires Class B CDL; MSD Level 1-3 completion.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment and tools.
• Able to work emergencies outside normal hours and in bad weather.
• Ability to lead and guide crew and communicate effectively.
• Preferred: Class A CDL and Tanker/HazMat endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Operate cranes and asphalt grinding machines for highway maintenance.
• Coordinate with regional personnel and other agencies.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on equipment.
• Record maintenance activities in routine reports.
• Respond to emergencies affecting the state route system.
