Job summary

Veit is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, and other heavy machinery, excavate and grade earth, and support structure work. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment, following safety procedures, and training less-experienced staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; six to twelve months of operating construction equipment experience.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR and safety training.
• Ability to read grade stakes and site plans.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to perform basic math for field tasks.
• Dependable attendance and reliable schedule.
• Willingness to travel as needed; 18+ years old; union willingness.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently on site or highway construction.
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures; report issues to supervisors.
• Perform routine inspection and maintenance; refer repairs.
• Assist in training entry-level staff.
• Identify underground utilities prior to excavation.
• Verify trenching requirements and protections with supervisors.
• Communicate progress and issues to foremen and management.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
