A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR - DRAINAGE

Job Summary

Under general supervision, drives trucks and operates motorized equipment over 3 tons to perform ditch swabbing, culvert setting, and other street maintenance tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Operate trucks and equipment such as dump trucks, front loaders, backhoes, graders, and excavators.
  • Assist with digging, hoisting, and hauling materials.
  • Perform minor repairs and daily equipment inspections.
  • Maintain communication with supervisors via radio or phone.
  • Remain available for immediate call-in during emergencies or disasters.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Licenses

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of drainage maintenance and construction experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and CDL Class B with 'N' endorsement required.

Work Environment

The role involves exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, and high places. The noise level is typically loud. Employees must be prepared to respond to emergencies as essential personnel.
