Saber Power Services, LLC, (SPS), located in Houston, TX, is a nationally recognized full-service EPC, specialty engineering, procurement, construction, and testing and commissioning company. We specialize in complex medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure across North America.

We are seeking a safety-focused, NCCCO Certified Crane Operator to join our high voltage construction team. This role involves lifting, setting, and precise placement of heavy equipment and materials on substation and transmission projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of crane operations in utility-scale environments and be comfortable working around energized equipment under strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Operate mobile and/or fixed cranes to lift, move, and position large equipment such as transformers, breakers, structures, and steel components for high voltage substation and transmission line projects.
  2. Conduct daily equipment inspections and pre-operation checks in accordance with OSHA and manufacturer requirements.
  3. Work closely with rigging crews, signalpersons, and site supervisors to ensure lifts are completed safely and efficiently.
  4. Interpret load charts and plan lifts in coordination with the project team.
  5. Maintain accurate lift logs and equipment maintenance records.
  6. Follow all company, OSHA, and site-specific safety protocols, including maintaining required clearances near energized components.
  7. Assist with general substation or construction tasks as needed during crane downtime.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  1. Current NCCCO certification (Telescopic Boom – Swing Cab and/or Lattice Boom preferred).
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating cranes, ideally in high voltage, utility, or heavy civil construction.
  3. Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 Subpart CC and ANSI crane safety regulations.
  4. Ability to read and interpret lift plans and crane load charts.
  5. Familiarity with rigging techniques and hand signals.
  6. Valid CDL Class A (preferred).
  7. Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and fit-for-duty physical.
Preferred Experience
  1. Prior experience working in substations, transmission line sites, or utility-scale renewable energy projects.
  2. Signalperson and Rigger Level I or II certifications.
Work Environment
  1. Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  2. Travel may be required to job sites across multiple regions.
  3. Physical work including climbing, lifting, and extended periods operating equipment.
