Job summary

Veit is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, and other heavy equipment on site and on highway construction projects. The role includes excavation, earth moving and grading tasks, with potential repairs and maintenance of equipment.

The position requires OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR, plus the ability to read grade stakes and site plans, work 8–12 hour days, weekends, and travel as needed. Union affiliation may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, six to twelve months of operating construction equipment experience.
• Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and the ability to follow safety precautions.
• Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes/site plans.
• Good communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to work 8 to 12‑hour shifts, including weekends and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment on site or highway construction.
• Follows company and OSHA safety procedures at all times.
• Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Assists in training entry-level employees to perform maintenance tasks.
• Identifies underground and overhead utilities prior to excavating.
• Reviews trenching requirements with Supervisors and ensures protections are available.
• Keeps management informed of actions affecting project operations.
