Job summary

The City of Miami Springs is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to operate a range of municipal trucks and machinery, including backhoes, loaders, cranes, and dump trucks. The role requires two years of experience, a valid Florida CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement, and the ability to pass safety inspections.

Regular hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 3:45 pm, with potential nights, holidays, weekends, and post-disaster shifts.

Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.
Two years of experience operating heavy equipment: trash crane, backhoe, front-end loader.
Valid Florida CDL license with a good driving record. CDL Class B with Air Brake Endorsement or higher.
Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certificate or ability to obtain within six months.
Punctual and reliable.

Responsibilities

Operate a variety of equipment and trucks as required by the department.
Conduct daily equipment/vehicle inspections.
Inform supervisor of operating deficiencies.
Safely operate all equipment and vehicles.
Wear appropriate safety equipment at all times.
Maintain radio communications with supervisor and office.
Maintain and write records relating to inspections, daily worksheets, daily work logs and materials issued.
Interact with residents in a courteous, polite manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
