Job summary

SADOFF Iron & Metal COMPANY seeks a Heavy Equipment Operator for a Monday–Friday first shift. The role involves safely transferring materials, loading and unloading trucks and rail cars, and assisting customers. Skid steer experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in reading load sheets and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transfers materials and loads/unloads trucks and rail cars.
  • Assist customers and sort materials as needed.
  • Operate heavy equipment and skid steers per procedures.
  • Complete inspection reports and report non-conforming loads.

Come and work for a family-owned business, where people and culture matter! We are looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team, in a Monday through Friday, first shift position. We pay weekly and have a great benefit package. The Heavy Equipment Operator safely transfers materials, loads and unloads trucks and rail cars as well as assists customers. Other responsibilities may include sorting materials. Skid steer experience is a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Proper Handling: Safely and efficiently handle the loading and unloading of various commodities by following proper procedures, utilizing appropriate equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines to prevent accidents or damage.
  • Safety: Understands safety requirements on machine being operated, ensuring adherence to safety standards to minimize risks and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Product Knowledge: Understands quality requirements for customer or material being loaded by ensuring that proper procedures and precautions are followed.
  • Inspection Reports: Thoroughly and accurately complete inspection reports by documenting all relevant details, observations, and findings during the inspection process, providing a comprehensive record for analysis, documentation, and quality control purposes.
  • Comply with Instructions: Follow directions on load sheets carefully, complying with loading procedures, stacking guidelines, and other specific handing instructions. Follow all work instructions to ensure safety and smooth operation.
  • Communicate with inspector on non-conforming loads, providing clear and detailed information regarding the issue, collaborating to determine appropriate actions, and seeking resolution or guidance to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING
  • One to two years of related experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • Able to complete physically demanding work.
  • Good hand-eye-foot coordination and sense of balance.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.
  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery.
Visual & Audio
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Excellent depth perception and reaction time.
  • Visual acuity to follow hand signals, maintain logs, and inspect and maintain machinery.
  • Must be able to see details at close range.
  • Must be able to wear protective equipment for eye/ear.
Dexterity & Acuity
  • Dexterity and accuracy as needed to operate testing equipment or gauges.
  • Manual dexterity as needed to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Ability to maintain single-task focus and situational awareness.
