Job summary

Matrix Service is seeking a construction equipment operator to operate a range of machinery including forklifts, excavators, loaders, and related attachments. The role involves precise lifting, signaling, and safe operation around utilities, with a focus on safety and adherence to company standards.

The position requires mechanical/industrial maintenance experience and completion of Matrix Service safety training, plus passing background and drug tests. Travel and overtime may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of mechanical, industrial or refinery maintenance experience.
  • Must pass equipment test and visual observation of operating equipment.
  • Must complete Matrix Service Safety training and/or Client/Site specific training.
  • Must pass a background check and maintain active drug testing program status.

Job description

Primary Function

Operators will operate one or more construction equipment such as but not limited to forklift, bob cats, bulldozers, excavators, skid steer, mini excavator, full size excavator, front-end loaders, back hoes, rubber tire backhoe, rollers, and graders to move earth.

Typical Duties
  • Actively supports the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values."

  • Performs loading and unloading of equipment and supplies.
  • Precision positioning of equipment, lifting heavy machinery and components, as well as beams and lumber.
  • Will work in a cab and use pilot operated joystick controls, pedals, levers and buttons to lift, move, and position loads using hoisting attachments, such as hooks, slings, electromagnets, and buckets.
  • Operators will observe load hookup and determine safety of load and inspect and report on crane and hoisting mechanism.
  • Must be careful and attentive at all times so they can follow directions closely as they will communicate with team members both verbally and by signal instruction.
  • Operate equipment to dig trenches and holes of specified length, depth, and width and grade.
  • Be able to work around existing underground utilities and tight areas.
  • Understand shoring, soil classes and dewatering.
  • Use equipment to remove loosened material and put in piles or transport trucks.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervision.
Physical / Special Requirements
  • Work will be required to adhere to large amounts of sitting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Requires visual ability sufficient to perform job duties. Work normally requires eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to use fingers in precise coordinated movements. Must have good dexterity in arms, legs, hands, and feet.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and leather work boots.
  • Ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and work from elevated or uneven surfaces.
  • Work may include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment and/or trailers.
  • Travel and overtime may be required.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience

Minimum of three (3) years of mechanical, industrial or refinery maintenance experience. Must be able to pass equipment test and visual observation of operating equipment. Complete the Matrix Service Safety training, and/or Client/Site specific training. Must Pass a Background. Must obtain and maintain an active status within the applicable drug testing program.
