Job summary

Standard Constructors, Inc. is seeking an Equipment Operator to work on outdoor construction and petrochemical sites.

You will operate bulldozers, excavators, skid steers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and other heavy equipment, while following safety policies and helping with site preparations. Responsibilities include performing daily equipment inspections, communicating clearly with spotters and supervisors, maintaining surfaces to specifications, and assisting other crafts as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs
  • Hand/eye coordination, depth perception important
  • Must be able to drive cars, trucks, forklifts, and other equipment
  • Must be able to communicate to safely perform work
  • Will need to perform sedentary to heavy work
  • May operate hand and power tools of all types
  • Climb and maintain balance on various frameworks and equipment
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, carry objects frequently
  • Prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing/pulling, or standing and lifting
  • Walk on uneven surfaces, mud, loose rock, sand
  • May be required to work in confined spaces
  • Communication with management/supervision
  • Reading & writing comprehension for directions and safety policy
  • Work at various tempos, concentrate amid distractions
  • Decision making skills
  • Detail oriented; observe details

Responsibilities

  • Understand danger zones and hazards for others on the ground around operating equipment
  • Interpret hand signals to determine where materials are to be placed
  • Work with spotters and flaggers to ensure safety is maintained and hazards are avoided while operating equipment
  • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities for tools and equipment
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment including checking fluids and refueling
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors
  • Prepare and level surfaces to specifications
  • Assist other craft workers as needed
  • Be proactive in all areas of safety and recognize potential safety issues and hazards

Job description

The Equipment Operator should have the ability to operate the following equipment when required: bulldozers, excavators, skid steers and front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers and compactors, forklifts, tractors, small trenchers, etc. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. Will be required to work in a plant operations or construction job site setting.

Responsibilities
  • Understand danger zones and hazards for others on the ground working around the operating equipment
  • Interpret hand signals to determine where materials are to be placed
  • Work with spotters and flaggers to ensure safety is maintained and hazards are avoided and/or mitigated while operating equipment
  • Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities for tools and equipment
  • Perform daily inspections on equipment including checking fluids, refueling, adding fluids, and assessing component wear.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors
  • Prepare and level surfaces to specifications
  • Assist other craft workers as needed
  • Be proactive in all areas of safety and recognize potential safety issues and hazards

  • Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and equipment
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis
  • Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting
  • Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision
  • Talking, reading & writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy
  • Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions
  • Decision making skills necessary
  • Detail oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details
Work Environment

The job will primarily be on or around outdoor construction sites in petrochemical and/or refining operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants, and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state, and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.
