Job summary

Salish Kootenai College is seeking a qualified heavy truck and equipment mechanic to maintain and repair vehicles used in the Highway Construction Training program. You will also instruct students in basic preventative maintenance and repair procedures to enhance training outcomes.

Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to occasional schedule deviations while prioritizing safety and accuracy in all tasks.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of recent, verifiable experience as a heavy truck and equipment mechanic (5 years preferred).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong safety and preventative maintenance knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment; order parts as needed; discuss major repairs with supervisor; maintain equipment repair files.
  • Classroom and field instruction of students as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment and student records as required.
  • Assist other departments as needed upon supervisor approval.
  • Physically capable of completing repairs in challenging conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with a diverse student population and staff; stay calm under stress.
  • Understand and align with Salish Kootenai College mission and goals.
