Job summary

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) in the Northwest Region is seeking three Heavy Equipment Mechanics (HEM2) to join Transportation Equipment Fund (TEF) shops in Bellevue and Kent, WA. You will inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy vehicles used in highway maintenance, perform preventative maintenance, and contribute to safe, reliable equipment for field operations.

Qualifications

• Experience inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing heavy equipment used in highway maintenance.
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and identify safety issues to minimize downtime.
• Proficiency with fleet management software and standard office apps; reading manuals and blueprints.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair small, large, and heavy equipment used in highway maintenance and engineering.
• Repair vehicles and equipment including graders, loaders, snow equipment, and other state-owned machinery.
• Utilize diagnostic software and tools to troubleshoot electro-hydraulic systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and tune-ups; maintain repair records and documentation.
• Operate shop machinery; fabricate parts as needed; support with welding and overhauls.
• Maintain accurate shop records, order parts, and manage labor reporting; assist with safety programs.
• Work with internal and external customers; support after-hours emergencies and stand-by in some shifts.
