Job summary

Laramie County Public Works is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to perform complex maintenance and repair on vehicles and heavy equipment under supervision from the Sr. Heavy Equipment Mechanic. The role covers shop and field work in compliance with safety regulations.

You will diagnose engines, transmissions, hydraulic and electrical systems, fabricate metal components, and maintain thorough service records. CDL is preferred or obtainable within a year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 2 years vehicle/equipment maintenance experience or a Diesel Mechanic/Technology Certification.
• CDL preferred, or the ability to obtain it within a year of hire.
• Provides and maintains the appropriate set of tools to perform the functions of the position.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, maintains and repairs vehicles and heavy equipment in the repair shop and at job sites.
• Assist in diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, power trains, electronic systems, braking, and steering.
• Diagnoses and repairs component systems for electrical, fuel, hydraulic, and cooling systems.
• Assist with fabricating metal and tools, building and modifying metal components.
• Lubricates vehicles and changes oil and filters.
• Maintains records of repairs made, work orders and time worked.
• Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Purchases parts and supplies within scope of authority.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.
