Job summary

HRCP in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Diesel technician/mechanic to support heavy equipment maintenance on the I-64 project. You will diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulics, brakes, transmissions, and perform preventive maintenance on dozers, excavators, and heavy haul trucks.

You must be at least 18, pass a drug screen, have a Diesel technician degree or mechanic training preferred, a High School Diploma, and familiarity with DOT standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years in heavy construction/Diesel repair.
  • Diesel technician degree or equivalent preferred; HS diploma required.
  • Must pass drug screen and have valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of DOT standards and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines and driveline systems.
  • Diagnose hydraulics, brakes, transmission, steering and other systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment (dozers, excavators, trucks).
  • Weld or fabricate as needed and prepare work orders.
  • Maintain daily logs, fuel equipment and ensure safety and housekeeping.

Job description

The Hampton Roads Connector Partners JV (HRCP) consisting of Dragados, VINCI, and Flatiron has been selected to construct the $4.3bn Design Build project –the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).The project scope across a 9 mile section of the I-64 will include: a new 3.5-mile bridge-tunnel crossing that will accommodate a total of 8 lanes of capacity across the water, replacement of the existing marine approach bridges and the addition of a third lane on I-64 in each direction. The twin 45’ diameter 1.5-mile tunnels will be bored by TBM, creating the second largest TBM tunnel opening for a TBM in North America. The project is expected to continue to the end of 2027.Driver will use a company vehicle with emergency flashing lights. Duties include assisting all deliveries to ensure they are transported safely, monitor loads during the switching of lanes, bridge crossings, on and off highways to and from the job site. Ensure the safety of all loads, driver, and everyone else on the road. Maintain specified distance between escort vehicle and semi-trucks, to provide warning to other motorists. Communicates by two-way radio with truck and other drivers to coordinate changes in speed, emergencies or traffic congestion.
