Job summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking qualified maintenance mechanics for the Berkeley Maintenance Office. You will work on heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and passenger vehicles, with tools supplied and opportunities for training.

Expect a Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:30pm schedule, potential overtime, and comprehensive state benefits. Responsibilities include assisting with various engine repairs, transmissions, brake systems, and light exhaust work.

Qualifications

• Six months of work experience directly related to the area of employment.
• Completion of one academic year of a SC High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six months of experience.
• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
• Must obtain a Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Assist other mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment and diesel trucks.
• Perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot electrical issues on state equipment.
• Respond to service calls in the field and assist in shop operations during emergencies.
