Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking qualified mechanics for its Charleston Maintenance Office to work on a range of heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and passenger vehicles. Tools are provided, with training opportunities available; schedule is Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm, with possible overtime.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, minor to moderate repairs, electrical troubleshooting, and assisting with other mechanics.

Qualifications

• Six months of work experience directly related to the area of employment.
• Completion of one academic year of SC High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six months of directly-related experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, diesel trucks and passenger vehicles.
• Assist in repairs to automatic and standard transmissions and to brakes, exhaust, and fuel systems.
• Troubleshoot vehicle electrical problems and use diagnostic equipment.
• Attend training and assist during emergencies; keep the shop clean and organized.
