The South Carolina Department of Transportation in Charleston seeks qualified mechanics to repair heavy equipment, diesel trucks, and passenger vehicles. Tools are provided; training opportunities are offered.

Candidates must have 1.5 years related experience or approved substitute; a valid driver's license is required and Class A CDL must be obtained within 6 months. Work is Mon-Fri 7:00am–3:30pm with occasional overtime; benefits include health insurance, retirement, 13 paid holidays, and 15

Formación

• 1.5 years of related work experience or approved equivalent.
• Completion of one academic year of SC High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six months of experience.
• A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within six months of placement.

Responsabilidades

• Perform skilled mechanical repairs on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, tires, A/C, and welding as needed.
• Diagnose repairs or part replacements on diesel-powered equipment assigned to SCDOT.
• Ensure shop safety, proper disposal of hazardous waste per regulations, and maintain a clean work area.
• Provide mechanical assistance at field sites during emergencies or inclement weather.
