Job summary

Qualdoc in Taneytown, MD is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to service, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized machinery.

This hands-on role requires strong mechanical skills, safe work practices, and the ability to address equipment problems promptly; some travel may be required for training, meetings, maintenance, or other assignments.

Starting pay is $24.00 per hour with higher compensation based on experience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.
• Experience in at least two of hydraulics, electronics, small engines, or air conditioning.
• High school diploma/GED plus trade school or equivalent in diesel repair and maintenance.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment and identify mechanical or operational problems.
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related machinery.
• Troubleshoot hydraulics, electronics, small engines, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems.
• Complete maintenance and repair orders with accurate mileage and hours.
• Communicate urgent repair needs to the Shop Foreman and team.
• Travel to other locations as needed for repairs and training.

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to service, troubleshoot, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized machinery. This hands‑on role requires strong mechanical skills, safe work practices, and the ability to address equipment problems promptly.

Some travel may be required for training, meetings, maintenance, repairs, or other work assignments.

What You'll Do

• Inspect equipment and identify mechanical or operational problems
• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related machinery
• Troubleshoot systems involving hydraulics, electronics, small engines, air conditioning, and other mechanical systems
• Complete maintenance and repair orders with accurate mileage, operating hours, dates, and work details
• Communicate urgent equipment issues and repair needs to the Shop Foreman
• Follow assigned repair priorities and help keep equipment downtime to a minimum
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition
• Follow applicable safety procedures, regulations, and work practices
• Work with the maintenance team to complete service and repair assignments efficiently
• Travel to other locations as needed for repairs, preventive maintenance, training, meetings, or other assignments
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

• 5+ years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery
• 5+ years of experience in at least two of the following technical areas:
• Hydraulics
• Electronics
• Small engines
• Air conditioning
• Other related mechanical systems
• High school diploma/GED plus trade school, dealership, or factory service training in diesel mechanical repair and maintenance equivalent to associate-level technical training
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond to urgent repair needs
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Basic computer proficiency
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are preferred/required as applicable
• Additional certifications may be required based on assigned duties

Physical Requirements

• Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, walking, sitting, and standing
• Ability to carry tools, parts, and other materials
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions
• Ability to work extended hours when necessary
• Regularly lift up to 50 lbs
• Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 lbs. or items that create an ergonomic lifting or movement challenge
