Job summary

Qualdoc in Kansas City, MO is seeking a Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.

This role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, working safely under pressure, and responding quickly to emergencies. You must be available for 24/7 emergency calls and up to 50% travel. Starting pay is $23.00 per hour with a $2,500 sign-on bonus after completing 3 months of assignment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years maintaining heavy equipment and/or trailers/cranes.
• Two years of vocational training and five years of hands-on repair experience.
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical problems and identify the appropriate repair.
• Document completed work orders, including mileage and hours.

Job Summary

We are hiring a skilled Heavy Equipment Diesel Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, service, and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.

This role is ideal for an experienced mechanic who can diagnose mechanical issues, work safely under pressure, and respond quickly when emergency repairs are needed.

24/7 emergency availability and out-of-town/out-of-state travel are required.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and related equipment
• Diagnose mechanical and equipment problems and identify the appropriate repair
• Complete repair assignments based on daily priorities from the Shop Foreman
• Help reduce equipment downtime by addressing issues efficiently
• Confirm required parts, tools, and equipment are available before and during repairs
• Document completed work orders, including mileage, operating hours, and repair details
• Report emergency repair needs and coordinate priorities with the Shop Foreman
• Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and work areas
• Follow company safety procedures and applicable workplace safety requirements
• Work effectively with other mechanics and team members
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment and/or trailers/cranes
• 5+ years of experience in at least two additional technical areas, such as:
  • Hydraulics
  • Electronics
  • Small engines
  • Other related mechanical systems
• High school diploma/GED plus trade school or equivalent diesel mechanical training
• Two years of technical/vocational training and five years of hands-on repair experience
• Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are preferred/required as applicable
• Valid driver's license with a good driving record
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond with urgency
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Proficient computer skills
• Ability to read, write, and communicate in English

Schedule & Travel

• Must be available for 24/7 emergency calls
• Out-of-town and out-of-state travel required
• Up to 50% travel may be required
• Must be able to work extended hours when necessary

Physical Requirements

• Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting
• Ability to work outdoors and in changing weather conditions
• Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs
• Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 lbs
