Job summary

Southern Tire Mart in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Heavy Duty Truck and Trailer Technician to diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers, including brakes, HVAC, drivetrains, and electrical systems.

You will perform PM inspections, tire services, and use diagnostic tools, while maintaining records and adhering to safety and DOT rules. Competitive hourly pay with overtime possible and benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (trade school certification a plus).
• Prior experience as a diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or heavy truck mechanic preferred.
• Strong mechanical knowledge and problem-solving ability.
• Must be able to lift/move tires and equipment (30–250 lbs., with or without mechanical aids).
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Willingness to work in varying conditions (weather, noise, physical demands).
• Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Overtime maybe required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical systems on semi-trucks and trailers.
• Perform brakes, HVAC, drivetrains and electrical system work.
• Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) inspections.
• Operate diagnostic tools to troubleshoot issues.
• Perform tire-related services and TPMS maintenance.
• Maintain detailed records of work performed.
• Respond to roadside service calls using a company service truck.
• Assist with parts inventory and shop organization.
• Complete other duties as assigned.
