Eau Claire Truck & Trailer, part of Midwest Star Group, is looking for aHeavy-Duty Trailer Technician / Mechanic to join our Eau Claire team.
This is a hands-on position responsible for inspecting, maintaining and repairing commercial trailers and related equipment. We're open to candidates with previous trailer or heavy-duty repair experience, as well as mechanically inclined individuals who have a strong foundation and want to continue developing their skills.
What You'll Do:
- Inspect, diagnose, repair and maintain commercial trailers
- Perform brake, suspension and air-system repairs
- Diagnose and repair trailer lighting and electrical systems
- Service wheel bearings, axles and related components
- Perform tire service, repair and replacement
- Service and repair liftgates and other trailer components
- Repair trailer floors, roofs, doors and structural components
- Assist with welding, fabrication and custom repairs
- Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections
- Assist with DOT inspections based on experience/qualification
- Identify needed repairs and clearly communicate findings
- Maintain accurate documentation of work performed
- Maintain an organized, safe and clean work area
- Assist with parts, materials and general shop needs as necessary
- Support other technicians and shop operations to keep work moving efficiently
- Occasionally assist with roadside or emergency repairs as needed
Requirements
- Previous trailer, truck, heavy-duty equipment, automotive or related mechanical/shop experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
- Experience with air brakes, suspension, electrical systems and/or trailer components preferred
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
- Ability to use standard hand and power tools safely
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs based on experience level
- Ability to read service information, diagrams and repair instructions
- Valid driver's license
- Must provide own basic tools
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical work throughout the workday
- Ability to work in shop conditions including noise, dust and varying temperatures
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work as scheduled
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to safety and quality workmanship
