Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator for heavy civil construction. The role focuses on determining total project costs by creating comprehensive estimates with accuracy and analytics.

This position supports growth, stability, and a clear path for advancement within a respected, family-owned contractor. Typical projects involve heavy civil construction with emphasis on accurate take-offs, subcontractor quotes, and the use of HCSS HeavyBid software.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management preferred.
• 3–5 years of heavy civil project experience required.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with owners, engineers and vendors.
• Experience with HCSS HeavyBid/HeavyJob preferred.
• Proficiency with Primavera and P6 scheduling; accounting software helpful.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers; estimate to 95% complete before formal review.
• Prepare rough schedule of project for estimating time frames.
• Review productions with superintendents to finalize the bid.
• Enter detailed data into HCSS HeavyBid software.
• Other duties as assigned.
