Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator for heavy civil projects in Sterling, VA. The role centers on calculating total project costs by producing comprehensive, accurate estimates and coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure bid completeness.

You will interpret drawings, prepare schedules, and handle data entry in HCSS HeavyBid while collaborating with project teams to deliver high-quality bids and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Construction Management preferred.
• 3–5 years of heavy civil estimating experience required.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret drawings and specifications for accurate estimates.
• Solicit quotes from subcontractors and suppliers; aim for 95% complete estimates before formal review.
• Prepare rough project schedules to determine time frames.
• Review estimated productions with superintendents to finalize bids.
• Enter detailed data into HCSS HeavyBid software.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
