Job summary

ThermTech - Heat Treating Specialists in Wisconsin seeks a Heat Treat Metallurgical Lab Technician (Level 2) to perform critical metallurgical tests, inspections, and analysis on heat-treated alloy components. Working within the Quality Assurance Department, you will ensure thermal processing meets aerospace, defense, and heavy industrial specs (Nadcap/AS9100).

You will evaluate material properties, interpret furnace charts, and collaborate with production to uphold strict quality standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree (2-year) in Mechatronics, Metallurgy, Materials Science, Quality Engineering, or related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years hands-on metallurgical lab or QC experience, preferably in heat-treating or metal manufacturing.
• Familiarity with aerospace/defense standards (Nadcap, AS9100, AMS) or heavy industrial metal standards.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs, stand for long periods, and handle lab chemicals with PPE.
• Strong reading of technical blueprints or engineering schemas.

Responsibilities

• Perform precise metallographic preparation: cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, etching of alloy specimens.
• Conduct microhardness and macrohardness testing using Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers equipment.
• Evaluate microstructure: grain size, case depth, oxidation via optical microscopy.
• Audit furnace thermal charts and pyrometry data against recipes and aerospace standards.
• Prepare detailed lab test reports and NCRs in the tracking system.
• Calibrate and maintain lab testing equipment and chemical etching stations.
• Assist QA Manager during internal, customer, and third-party audits.
