Job summary

Leidos seeks a Research Assistant to join the Naval Submarine Research Laboratory (NSMRL) team in New London, Groton, CT. The role supports hearing conservation research, data collection, and protocol development for studies on hearing protection and communication systems.

You will collaborate with a PI, assist in experimental planning, and prepare reports while ensuring compliance with research standards. This on-site position requires US citizenship and potential SECRET clearance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in hearing science, acoustics, physics, or life sciences.
  • Documented evidence of research methods experience (thesis or coursework).
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively both in writing and orally with a wide variety of people.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply research to NSMRL/Navy missions.
  • Desire to pursue a career in life sciences supporting military health sciences.
  • Ability to acquire at least SECRET clearance (preference for existing clearance).
  • US citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements.
  • Maintain a valid driver license and safe driving record.
  • Work is primarily on a government installation; standard hours Mon-Fri 0800-1630.
  • Some offsite travel (~10%) may be required for data collection/presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with Principal Investigator at NSMRL in planning, data collection, and analysis.
  • Plan scientific protocols and set up and test experimental equipment.
  • Develop protocols for executing human research.
  • Assist with audiology research using devices to investigate hearing protection and communication systems.
  • Set up, test, and troubleshoot experimental equipment.
  • Coordinate subject recruitment and ensure protocol execution.
  • Communicate with audiologists and researchers outside NSMRL to stay current with developments.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and other documents as directed.
  • Adhere to scientific review board procedures.
