Job summary

The Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR) is seeking a New Organizer to lead and manage organizing campaigns, conduct robust outreach, and develop leaders among physicians. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to solve problems and drive campaigns to successful conclusions.

You will collaborate across CIR departments, gain experience in labor relations and campaign strategy, and travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience as a union organizer required
• Healthcare experience preferred but not required
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds for a common goal
• Ability to think critically, manage conflict, and work independently
• Ability to travel for out-of-state assignments frequently and long durations
• Must reside within 50 miles of target cities with Boston/Seattle area preferred
• Proficiency with Microsoft Suite and Google products (Docs & Sheets)

Responsibilities

• Conduct broad and intensive outreach
• Build one-on-one relationships and recruit leaders
• Conduct meetings to advance campaigns
• Engage and mobilize unorganized physicians
• Plan and implement actions and events supporting campaigns
• Understand hospital operations, training, and governance structures
• Collaborate with CIR departments to strengthen campaigns
• Learn labor law related to union recognition
• Perform basic campaign research including mapping
• Facilitate meetings effectively
• Engage with physicians on quality improvement and working conditions
• Develop skills in public speaking, health care economics, and strategic research
