Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab seeks a Public Safety Officer to maintain a secure environment at the front line of service for patients, staff, and visitors. You will patrol for hazards, control access, respond to alarms, and conduct investigations with a commitment to excellence and compassion.

You will enforce safety rules, assist with transportation and traffic management, and support security operations across the institute, including reporting and documentation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 20 hours training outlined by IL Department of Professional Regulation, or Illinois Peace Officer certification.
• Security experience preferred (2 years).
• Knowledge of security procedures, investigations, reporting and public safety rules.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to identify safety hazards and unauthorized persons.
• Maintain secure facilities and control access to rooms and offices.
• Respond to alarms, disturbances, accidents, and other public service calls.
• Conduct preliminary investigations and prepare written reports.
• Enforce hospital safety and security rules and policies.
• Maintain departmental equipment including uniforms and accessories.
• Provide directions and information to patients, visitors and staff.
• Assist with transporting staff and items via security vehicle.
• Escort patients, visitors and employees to parking areas and entrances.
• Transport prescriptions, blood, and doctors' orders as needed.
• Perform other duties in the best interest of the institute.
