Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is seeking a Public Safety Officer to maintain a secure environment and protect patients, staff, and visitors. You will patrol facilities, control access, respond to alarms, and prepare incident reports while upholding the institute’s values of excellence and compassion.

The role requires a high school diploma, security training, and prior security experience; IL driver's license within 6 months and IAHSS Beginner Certification within 12 months are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Minimum 20 hours training or certification as a Peace Officer in Illinois.
• Security experience 2 years preferred.
• Knowledge of security procedures, investigation techniques and public safety rules.
• 3–6 months orientation to acquire familiarity with SRALab policies.
• Ability to interact respectfully with staff and patients.
• Must obtain IL driver’s license within 6 months.
• Within 12 months, become certified in IAHSS Beginner Course.
• Preference for an associate degree in criminal justice or military experience.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas for hazards, unauthorized access, and other risks.
• Maintains secure facilities; controls access to rooms and offices.
• Responds to alarms, disturbances, and public safety calls.
• conducts preliminary investigations and writes reports.
• Enforces hospital safety and security rules and regulations.
• Maintains equipment and uniforms.
• Provides directions and information to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Assists with transporting employees to offsite garages via security vehicle.
• Assists with traffic control at main driveway and parking garage.
• Transports prescriptions, patient data, and doctor orders as needed.
• Performs other duties in the interest of SRALab.
