Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of the Tufts Medicine system, is seeking a full-time Healthcare Security Officer to perform public safety duties, patrol facilities, and respond to emergencies. The role requires strong communication, de-escalation skills, and the ability to work evenings with weekend/holiday rotations.

A driver’s license and Basic IAHSS certification within 1 year are required. Preferred qualifications include an Associates degree in Criminal Justice, prior security/police

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associates degree in Criminal Justice or related area (Preferred).
• Experience in military, security, or police (Preferred).
• Security or first responder certifications such as de-escalation/crisis response, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed, or Nasal Naloxone Certification (Preferred).
• Graduate of approved law enforcement training program or Police Academy and possession of, or ability to obtain, MA POST Certification (Preferred).
• Ability to obtain and maintain MA License to Carry Firearms (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform basic public safety and security duties.
• Conduct internal and external patrols of facilities.
• Respond to routine and emergency calls for service and monitor alarms.
• Provide escorts to patients, visitors, staff and others.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and report deficiencies.
• Document incidents via written reports and assist with investigations.
• Assist with emergencies and disasters as required.
• Maintain professional interactions with patients, visitors, and staff.
• Ensure proper access control and badge visibility.
