Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of Tufts Medicine, seeks an entry-level Public Safety/Security Officer. You will patrol buildings and grounds, respond to incidents, and assist withProtective services for staff, patients, and visitors. The role requires strong customer service, clear communication, and adherence to safety protocols.

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours weekly, Evening shift 3pm-11:30pm, with every other weekend and holiday rotation. Location: Melrose, MA.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid state issued driver’s license.
• IAHSS Basic certification as a Healthcare Security Officer within 1 year of hire; extensions apply through 9/1/2025.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic public safety and security duties; patrol facilities and grounds.
• Provide escorts to patients, visitors, staff and others per procedures.
• Identify security vulnerabilities and report deficiencies; take corrective action where possible.
• Respond to emergencies and participate in crisis interventions using de-escalation strategies.
• Maintain hospital ID badges visibility and restrict access to authorized personnel.
• Document incidents with written reports and coordinate with supervisors for follow-up.
