Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System seeks a Director of Public Safety to lead security, emergency preparedness, telecommunications, and valet services across Shore Regional Health facilities, reporting to the Senior Director of Operations.

The role ensures regulatory compliance, aligns initiatives with institutional goals, and mitigates risks to protect patients, staff, visitors, and assets. Strong collaboration with internal stakeholders and law enforcement is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; 4 years may substitute.
• 7 years of security experience.
• 5 years of supervision/managerial experience.
• De-escalation course on crisis intervention within 90 days of starting.
• Valid driver’s license required for hires on/after July 1, 2026.

Responsibilities

• Develop and lead a comprehensive security and emergency preparedness strategy.
• Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement.
• Provide security training and certification programs compliant with Maryland law.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, OSHA, NFPA, IAHSS, ASIS.
• Oversee access control, ID badging, and security infrastructure.
• Develop operating and capital budgets for security and related services.
• Assess program effectiveness via metrics, financials, and customer feedback.
• Conduct investigations related to criminal activity and workplace violence.
• Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation plans.
• Implement and maintain security tech across facilities.
