Job summary

Harford County seeks a Director of Emergency Services to oversee EMS, 9-1-1 center, emergency management, and related public safety functions. The role reports to County leadership and serves as the County’s senior emergency management official, coordinating across municipal partners and state agencies.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree and 8+ years in emergency services with 5+ years in a managerial capacity; a master’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Eight years of experience in emergency services, emergency management, EMS, or related field.
• Five years of managerial experience in fire or EMS.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Public Safety Management, Fire Science, or related field.
• Master’s Degree preferred; substitutions not waiving managerial requirement.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and administrative oversight for emergency services.
• Advise County officials on operations, resources, risks, and system needs.
• Represent the Department on emergency services matters before stakeholders.
