Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to keep patient rooms and hospital areas clean and sanitized, protecting patients and staff from infectious diseases. You will perform routine cleaning, use specialized equipment, and learn proper disposal of biohazards, refilling dispensers and delivering linens.

You will follow infection prevention and safety guidelines, maintain cleanliness, and support operations across the facility.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily occupied, discharge, and transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and common spaces in accordance with healthcare environmental services standards.
• Follows infection prevention, safety, risk management, and HIPAA guidelines, including proper PPE use, hand hygiene, isolation precautions, and waste stream handling procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles, safe chemical usage, and proper operation and maintenance of EVS equipment and tools.
• Maintains cleaning carts, supplies, and equipment while ensuring work areas meet cleanliness, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborates with the patient care team, applies critical thinking and accountability, and resolves concerns using appropriate resources and communication.
• Supports departmental and facility operations through performance improvement initiatives, mentoring new staff, and assisting with additional facility needs such as conference room setups, stairwells, elevators, and cubicle curtain changes.
