Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health is seeking an Environmental Services Technician to maintain a clean and sanitized hospital environment. You will perform routine cleaning, learn proper disposal of biohazard materials, refill dispensers, and deliver clean linens while ensuring safety and patient comfort.

You will follow infection prevention practices, manage waste streams, and operate EVS equipment. The role supports teamwork within the patient care environment and may involve special cleaning

Qualifications

• None, upon hire.
• High school graduate or GED with healthcare exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for completing daily occupied and discharge/transfer cleaning and disinfection of patient care areas, equipment, and other common areas. Performs duties with knowledge of healthcare cleaning principles and safe chemical handling.
• Adheres to safety, risk management and infection control guidelines; participates in initiatives to improve patient experience and cleanliness metrics.
• Maintains cleaning carts, supplies, and equipment; handles waste and ensures proper waste stream handling per procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Follows infection prevention practices including cleaning/disinfecting protocols, hand hygiene, PPE, and HIPAA requirements.
• Demonstrates critical thinking and accountability; uses resources to resolve issues and maintains facility safety.
• Operates and maintains EVS tools and equipment; may assist with conference room setups, stair/elevator cleaning, and hanging curtains; may mentor new staff.
