Job summary

Stony Brook University Medical Center is seeking a Housekeeping Manager to lead custodial operations across a 750k+ square foot campus, ensuring safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance. You will supervise staff, schedule assignments, and implement training aligned with sustainability goals, while maintaining high patient experience standards.

The role requires developing and enforcing cleaning protocols, auditing performance, and coordinating with unit leadership to optimize operations

Qualifications

• Associate's degree and at least 3 years of Custodial Services/Housekeeping management in health care.
• In lieu of Associate's degree, at least 4 years of Custodial Services / Housekeeping management in health care.
• Knowledge of operational software / quality programs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; experience with custodial software programs and MS Office; 5+ years supervisory/management experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee custodial service management for a facility of 750k+ square feet.
• Ensure compliance with JCAHO, DOH, OSHA and related requirements.
• Round with unit staff to audit cleaning and initiate corrective action.
• Assess patient experience and staff observations; ensure protocols are followed daily.
• Plan staff assignments, schedules, and emergency cleaning tasks.
• Supervise timekeeping, overtime use, and attendance; manage staffing.
• Manage custodial inventory and distribution of supplies and equipment.
• Develop training programs to meet sustainability directives.
• Inspect areas for cleaning guideline compliance and address complaints.
• Coordinate event setups and seating with event coordinators.
• Resolve personnel issues and determine retention or termination where needed.
• Oversee new employee onboarding and probationary competency.
• Utilize software to assign, monitor, and maintain a clean, safe facility.
• Use software to optimize patient flow and reduce turn-around times.
