Job summary

Virginia Commonwealth University Health seeks a Communications Center specialist to dispatch emergency response teams, handle after-hours clinic calls, and page on-call staff using Spok systems. The role focuses on patient safety, HIPAA compliance, and precise information handling.

You will support general information requests, back up SRC duties, and coordinate with clinical and security resources. Flex hours, weekends, and holidays are required as essential staff.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in customer service.
• Typing 45+ words per minute.
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and e-mail.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch emergency response teams per protocol with accuracy.
• Provide after-hours answering for ambulatory clinics.
• Page on-call physicians and staff via paging system.
• Provide general information and directions to callers and patients.
• Back up Service Response Center ticketing and communications.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and protect patient information.
• Support shift rotation, weekends and holidays as essential staff.
• Collaborate with teams to ensure patient safety and service continuity.
