Job summary

BEAR Construction is seeking a Healthcare Project Manager in Chicago to lead complex healthcare construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, ensuring safety, quality, profitability, and client satisfaction while navigating occupied facilities and infection control requirements.

You will manage budgets, schedules, teams, and contracts, coordinate with owners, facilities teams, architects, engineers, and subcontractors, and mentor project coordinators as you deliver projects on

Qualifications

• 5+ years proven commercial construction project management experience.
• Healthcare construction experience strongly preferred.
• Experience in occupied healthcare facilities (renovations, additions, phased work).
• Understanding of healthcare construction requirements (infection control, life safety, codes).
• Experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects (owners, architects, engineers, subs).
• Budgeting, estimating, cost control, and contract administration experience.
• Strong leadership and team development abilities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Understanding of construction safety standards and OSHA requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from preconstruction through completion; drive goals and execution.
• Understand scope, budget, schedule, risks, and healthcare-specific requirements.
• Create and maintain project execution plans, schedules, and documentation.
• Manage projects in occupied facilities with minimal disruption to operations.
• Coordinate phased construction activities with facilities teams and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with infection control, life safety, and building codes.
• Lead preconstruction budgeting, estimating, constructability reviews, and VE.
• Collaborate with owners, healthcare reps, architects, engineers, and subs.
• Define scopes of work for subs and vendors; negotiate contracts and PO's.
• Resource planning: labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors; maintain budget.
• Manage financials: forecasting, billing, change orders, profitability reporting.
• Mentor project team members; foster accountability and collaboration.
• Oversee project accounting: invoicing, AP, contract administration, reporting.
• Monitor quality, safety, regulations; communicate status internally and externally.
• Prepare status reports; manage risks and resolve issues proactively.
• Coordinate vendor/subcontractor proposals and project changes.
• Support estimating and business development activities as needed.
• Address client concerns and escalations professionally.
