Job summary

Ochsner Health seeks a Medical Coder to accurately assign ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes for professional services and hospital outpatient procedures. You will ensure documentation supports coded entries and collaborate with providers to resolve coding questions while upholding productivity standards.

The role requires at least 1 year of coding experience, knowledge of coding guidelines, and strong data entry skills. AHIMA/AAPC certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent with coding program certification preferred.
• Proficiency in ICD-9-CM/ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding principles.
• Strong data entry, documentation review and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assigns ICD-10, CPT and/or HCPCS codes within established guidelines for professional and hospital coding.
• Ensures data integrity by reviewing medical documentation to support codes.
• Acts as a resource by researching patient accounts in response to questions or errors.
• Maintains department productivity and accuracy standards.
• Communicates with providers for clarification or additional documentation.
• Collaborates with team members to meet monthly goals (DNFB, Pre-AR, Denials, claims edits).
• Verifies discharge disposition when supported by medical documentation.
• Performs other related duties as required.
