Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to own deployments of production AI systems within healthcare organizations. You will lead discovery, architecture, implementation, evaluation, and handoff, translating complex workflows and regulatory constraints into robust production solutions.

You will collaborate with customer teams and internal partners to drive adoption, measure impact, and improve readiness.

Qualifications

6+ years of software engineering, ML/AI engineering, or comparable experience.
Senior engineer or deployment owner with ability to make technical decisions in ambiguous environments.
Hands-on track record delivering production AI deployments for complex enterprise contexts.

Responsibilities

Own the technical solution end to end—from discovery and scoping to architecture, implementation, evaluation, deployment, and handoff.
Translate payer/provider/health-system workflows into measurable technical requirements and outcomes.
Design production AI applications that integrate with customer infrastructure, data platforms, and enterprise tools.
Build with safeguards for PHI, HIPAA, privacy, security, and regulatory requirements.
Define evaluation criteria, validation evidence, and launch readiness for customer-specific thresholds.
Improve system reliability and performance through analysis, feedback, and iteration.
Create reference architectures and reusable patterns for healthcare and regulated environments.
