Job summary

OpenAI is hiring a Forward Deployed Engineer to own end-to-end deployments of AI models in healthcare organizations, including payers and providers. You will lead discovery, architecture, implementation, evaluation, and productionization, translating complex workflows into production AI systems with privacy and security safeguards.

The role is based in Seattle with a hybrid schedule (3 days in office) and relocation assistance, plus travel up to 50%.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in software/ML/AI engineering or related roles.
• Experience as senior engineer, tech lead, or deployment owner.
• Healthcare domain experience or familiarity with PHI, HIPAA, or HL7/FHIR is a plus.
• Willingness to travel up to 50% and work in a hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical solution end-to-end for deployments, from discovery to production handoff.
• Collaborate with customer engineers, operators, and domain experts to translate workflows into technical requirements and measurable outcomes.
• Design and implement production AI applications that integrate with enterprise systems, data platforms, and health records.
• Implement safeguards for PHI, HIPAA, privacy, security, and governance; establish launch criteria and evaluation frameworks.
