Job summary

UCI Health is seeking an Authorization Specialist to obtain required approvals in line with established guidelines. The role involves verifying patient eligibility, collecting benefit information, and drafting authorization letters.

You will handle inquiries from Member Services and the Call Center and address issues as they arise. The position requires strong customer service skills, proficiency with office equipment and multi-line phones, and the ability to work various shifts including

Qualifications

• Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties.
• Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
• Must be able to work weekends/holidays.
• Demonstrated experience using office equipment such as a printer, copier, fax, scanner.
• Demonstrated experience using multi-line telephone system.
• Demonstrated experience using a computer, including data entry and retrieval.
• Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Ability to make simple calculations and perform simple math.
• Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
• Ability to effectively read, write and speak English.

Responsibilities

• Obtain all necessary authorizations in accordance with established guidelines.
• Verify eligibility and obtain benefit information.
• Generate letters for authorizations.
• Respond to Member Services and Call Center inquiries and resolve authorization issues.
• Coordinate with teams to resolve authorization problems.
