Job summary

InterMed, a premier health care provider, is expanding at Scarborough Downs and seeks an organized Health Unit Coordinator to support clinicians, providers, and staff. The role emphasizes multitasking, patient communication, and coordination of appointments and surgical scheduling.

The HUC will ensure accurate patient records, manage referrals, and maintain confidentiality in line with HIPAA and InterMed policies while delivering high-quality patient service and teamwork.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in a medical office or healthcare setting preferred.
• Proficient in Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Previous electronic medical record experience preferred.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Excellent professional judgment and decision-making ability.
• Able to work collaboratively and independently to achieve goals.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming telephone calls to the pod as back up to the clinical team.
• Schedule patients for routine appointments, follow-ups, and ancillary appointments via the portal and/or phone.
• Schedule and authorize all surgical procedures in eCW Provider Schedules and SIS; communicate booking requests to the appropriate facility.
• Coordinate pre-op and post-op appointments and clinic/OR block schedules at InterMed and NLMH.
• Obtain completed booking forms, consents, pre-certifications, and prior authorizations as required.
• Coordinate and manage incoming referrals with timely processing and follow-up.
• Assist with faxing, scanning, and document management as needed.
• Maintain patient charts and ensure HIPAA compliance.
