Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Colorectal Surgery unit on the Main Campus. This role supports patient flow, admissions, transfers and discharge activities while ensuring accurate records and smooth operations on the H50 unit.

You will work evening/night rotations (3:00pm-11:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am) and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team committed to world-class patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience.
• Experience with typing and basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and orient newly admitted and transferred patients.
• Respond to patient call lights and perform rounds.
• Assist with admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Help patients and families with wayfinding and resources.
• Assemble and maintain patient records and related documents.
• Support unit clerical tasks and troubleshoot equipment issues.

The H50 nursing unit for Colorectal Surgery is part of Cleveland Clinic’s Digestive Disease Institute, which hasbeen rankedsecond in the nation. Working with 16 colorectal surgeons, our dedicated and highly engaged nursing staff is focused on providing world-class medical and surgical care to patients with medical problems such as Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, coloncancerand genetic bowel disease.

A caregiver in this position works evening/night rotation, 3:00pm—11:30pm or 7:00pm—7:30am.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
• Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Assist patients and families with wayfinding and direct them to available resources.
• Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
• Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble-shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of experience in a customer service-related role
• Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• College Degree
• Microsoft Office experience

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
• Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
